Loss. Webster describes it as "the act of losing; failure; destruction." This, however, does not begin to capture the feeling of the thing, the aching void that eats at my body within. To build, over the course of 162 games, a great pillar of hope and then to have it smashed with one line single into left field, this is to know loss. And yet, as someone once said, hope springs eternal. That someone was a Red Sox fan. As I rose this morning and watched the sun's ascent, I realized that it is we who have the better pitching. With a few key hits...who knows. Nomar is an unstoppable force of baseball love and besides, we have won the thing that no one else has - destiny. And so I rebuild my pillar of hope, brick by brick, the loss fading with each step I take towards the T and beyond. Today the sun is shining and the Red Sox will win.
I believe.
