The Gift
Earrings: The receivers gift
These are from way back when in the fifties and it's the first memory I have of buying my mother a gift. I had a couple of dollars, about as much as an 8 year old boy had for spending money at that time.
The place to buy things was the downtown Woolworth's, and I thought these were just the most beautiful earrings and my mother would love them.
I didn't notice that they were for pierced ears, but my mother must have. She didn't mention the backings, but she put considerable thought and effort into havng the backings replaced with screw-type fittings. And then she made a point to wear them.
After my mother died, I came across these and my sister told me about her having them remade so my mistake wouldn't be noticed.
